Daniel T. Stein, MD
Dr. Daniel T Stein is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon, practicing on the Fountain Valley Regional Medical Center campus for nearly 20 years.
He began attending college at the University of California Irvine in 1973 and graduated cum laude with a BS degree in Biology at California State University, Northridge in 1977. He started medical school at Hahnemann University, School of Medicine in 1979, where he received commendations in biochemistry and neuroscience, honors in Ob-Gyn and the Likoff Cardiovascular Institute Award. He was elected to the Senior Year Honors Program, where he was provided the opportunity to perform research and to author Drug Effects – Exercise Testing and Training, a chapter in the textbook, Rehabilitation of the Cardiac Patient, 2nd edition, Houghton Mifflin Publishers, 1986. He also wrote or co-wrote nine scientific articles on the hemodynamic effects of anti hypertensive medication during this time period. Dr Stein graduated with an MD degree in 1983.
Dr Stein entered internship at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia in general surgery in 1983, completing in 1984. He then began his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Harbor/UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California in 1984. He received the Best Residents Paper at Dana Street Alumni Meeting award in 1986 and was the first resident from this program in years to present a paper at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Annual Meeting in San Francisco in January 1987, “The Hansen-Street Nail in Femoral Shaft Fractures”. Dr Stein completed his residency in 1988 and began his private practice in Fountain Valley, California.
Dr Stein became board certified after the mandatory 2 years in practice in 1990 and was recertified in 2000 and again, as required, in 2010. Dr Stein became a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in 1991.
He has also been awarded the Physician’s Recognition Award by the American Medical Association on multiple occasions, been recognized as Physician of the Quarter by Monarch Healthcare and was named a Physician of Excellence in 2006, 2009 and 2011 by the OCMA and Orange Coast Magazine.
He has become a Member of the Orange County Medical Association, a Member of the California Medical Association, a Member of the Western Orthopaedic Association and a Member of the California Orthopaedic Association.
Dr Stein is the managing physician of Coastline Orthopaedic Associates in Fountain Valley, comprised of a total of 4 orthopaedic surgeons. He is on staff at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, Fountain Valley, California, Coastal Communities Hospital, Santa Ana, California and Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center, Fountain Valley, California. He also provides clinical teaching experiences for medical students for UC Irvine, College of Medicine and Western University, Graduate University of Medical Sciences.
Dr Stein has been involved with many hospital and medical group committees and programs over the years, including Chairman of Outpatient Surgery Center Committee, Department of Surgery, Fountain Valley Regional Hospital since 2003, Member Surgical Quality Review Committee, Fountain Valley Regional Hospital since 1998 and Expert Medical Reviewer for Medical Board of California since 1996. In addition, He has been on the Board of Directors of the Philharmonic Society of Orange County since 2005.
Dr Stein has written or co-written 20 papers, chapters and abstracts, most recently published in Arthroscopy: The Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Research in 2004 and another article in Orthopedics in 2009. He has presented at a number of meetings including those of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the North American Trauma Fellows Conference. He has attended numerous continuing medical education seminars and events and has been awarded 5 patents on medical devices from the US Patent Office.
