Zafar S. Khan, M.D.

Dr. Zafar S. Khan is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in adult and pediatric spine surgery. Dr Khan grew up on the east coast. He spent his childhood in Baltimore, Maryland.

He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree with General Honors in Molecular Biology from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, in 1994. He graduated with the highest honors available which is Phi Beta Kappa from Johns Hopkins.  Dr. Khan then went on to attend the University of Maryland School of Medicine and graduated with a Cum Laude Doctor of Medicine degree in 1998. There he developed an interest in Spine Surgery.

He completed his Internship at the Departments of Surgery and Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Illinois at Chicago Hospitals and completed his Residency in 2003 at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Illinois at Chicago Hospitals.  There he served as Administrative Chief Resident, considered an honor in the program.

He completed additional trauma surgery training specializing in complex trauma in Lecco, Italy.

Following Residency he served as Clinical Instructor at the University of Louisville Hospital, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He completed his fellowship in Adult and Pediatric Spinal Surgery at the Leatherman Spine Center in Louisville, Kentucky. It is one of the busiest and most celebrated spine programs in the country. There he was involved in the development of spinal instrumentation as well as numerous studies.

Dr. Khan is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society, Phi Beta Kappa Society, and the Orange County Medical Association. . His awards include Best Doctors of Orange County, 2009, 2010 in Orange Coast Magazine. He currently serves as the Chief of Surgery at Fountain Valley Hospital. He performs complex spinal surgery and is well known for his expertise in complex Spine Surgery.

In his spare time Dr. Khan enjoys running and spending time with his family.
